Our Founding Team

Chris Hiller

Chris co-founded Coldrays with the vision of redefining how we cool our businesses, homes, farms, infrastructure, and cities. He received a bachelor’s degree from Washington University in St. Louis in Entrepreneurship and Anthropology before joining, and then founding, multiple technology startups in St. Louis, Boston, and Tucson. Prior to founding Coldrays, he ran a successful software consultancy, developing innovating products for clients in a variety of industries, including finance, marketing, real estate, and green tech.

Avery Compton

An avid environmentalist and naturalist, Avery brings an extensive scientific background in physical chemistry and biology. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Massachusetts before working as a researcher at the University of Arizona tackling oil spill and “forever chemical” cleanup and bioremediation.

Daniel Lazar

Daniel spent recent years as a Research Scientist at Meta AI, as well as in research positions in Apple and Stanford. He holds a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from UC Santa Barbara, in which he focused on optimizing transportation systems by decreasing congestion and lowering emissions. He has undergraduate degrees from Washington University in St. Louis. He was drawn to co-found Coldrays to apply his experience in Machine Learning and Systems Engineering to the pressing, and promising, field of cooling.

Jake Struzik

Jake Struzik co-founded Coldrays with a rich background in technology and a proven track record of driving growth in startup environments. Educated in Computer Science and Biology at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Jacob’s unique perspective has been instrumental in transforming the small startup Robin into a recognized leader in its field. His expertise in managing diverse teams and integrating cutting-edge technology solutions has established him as a key player in scaling businesses. At Coldrays, Jacob brings his strategic acumen and innovative approach to foster sustainable technological advancements.

Goal 2030
Coldrays’ Zero-Energy Cooling Roadmap

We call our company’s guiding philosophy “Goal 2030”. It represents our commitment to jumpstart the passive daytime radiative cooling in the United States by distributing and installing enough zero-energy cooling materials to create city-scale change in Tucson and Phoenix, AZ by the year 2030. The applications, data, and models created by Goal 2030 will help build a roadmap for global-level deployment of PDRC, with Arizona leading the way.
